7 Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Arrival in Rwanda and pick up by our company tour guide who will drive you to Kigali for a short Kigali city tour and lunch, thereafter drive off to Akagere National Park. Upon arrival you will be rewarded with a game drive. Dinner and overnight at Akagera game lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Game drive and Boat ride
Today you will have an early breakfast, leave for a morning game drive expecting to see animals such as lions, elephants, topi and bird species like heron, shoebill, and African jacana among others. Breakfast and relax waiting for lunch. You will then enjoy a canoe ride along Lake Ihema hoping to see crocodiles, hippos and birds. Overnight stay and dinner at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest via Kigali
Have breakfast and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest. En route lunch in Butare town and if you missed the city tour on Day 1, you will have it today; visits to Mirambi genocide memorial site, National Museum and the Royal palace en route. Proceed for dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura Guest house / Nyungwe safari lodge.
Day 4: Chimp tracking and Afternoon nature walk.
Have an early breakfast; proceed for chimpanzees tracking in the forest with the park rangers. Expect an encounter with other primates like colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervets, mangabeys, and many others. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest. Afternoon go out for a nature walk. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe forest lodge/Gisakura GH.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Morning breakfast followed by an 8hrs drive to Volcanoes National Park, through fantastic views following the shores of Lake Kivu. Have enroute lunch & stopovers for photographing, dinner & overnight at Kinigi guest house / La Palme hotel / La bamboo gorilla lodge.
Day 6: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes NP
After your breakfast in the morning, assemble at the park headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing at Parc National de Volcans for mountain gorilla tracking. Time permitting, enjoy a nature walk to the twin lakes of Burera & Ruhondo or take a walk to nearby cultural villages for entertainment in Kinyarwanda culture.
Day 7: City tour and Departure.
Have breakfast and drive back to Kigali city for a tour to Gisozi genocide memorial center, local art & craft shops, do last minute shopping before driving to the airport for the scheduled flight back home.
