Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met and welcomed by our safari tour guide who will brief you about the safari and later drive you to the northern part of Rwanda in Ruhangeri Musanze district passing through Rwandan countryside on the foot hill of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Volcanoes national park is a home to the endangered mountain gorillas and mountain gorilla tracking is known as the most done adventurous safari activity on earth. In case you arrive in time in Kigali you will first go for a Kigali city tour before you proceed to volcanoes national park you will visit places like the genocide memorial site, national museum, cultural sites, market places among many other interesting places. Dinner and an overnight at Gorilla View lodge, Sabyinyo silver back lodge (Luxury) or Gorilla’s Nest lodge (Midrange)
Day 2 Gorilla tracking in volcanoes national park
After breakfast at the lodge, you will report to the park headquarters in Kinigi to receive short briefings about gorilla tracking and also gets you assigned to the gorilla family and a ranger guide.
After, you will escort the ranger guide deep to the forest to begin the gorilla tracking activity one of the most adventurous safaris activities on earth. Gorilla tracking is unpredictable since meeting them depend on where they spent their last night from , however, it can go from 1-8 hours in the jungle while searching them, so a reasonable degree of fitness is needed as well as tracking gears like sturdy pairs of walking shoes/boots, long sleeved shirts and blouses , bottled water and sometimes packed lunch. Ounce these giants are met you strictly allowed only one hour with them while observing their behaviors as well as taking as many photography as you can(a flash camera is not allowed).
Sit in the forest among the gorillas listen to them grumble to each other, it’s an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. After the activity, you will be driven back to the lodge for late lunch and in the evening if you still have energy enjoy a community walk and visit the local people who live near the park, they will entertain you through their cultural dances and music. Day 3: Transfer to Uganda-Queen Elizabeth national park
After a morning breakfast, you will embark on a transfer to Uganda with a fantastic drive through out, after finalizing with the border crossing to Uganda, you will be driven through Kisolo and Kasese with a lunch en route, from here you will continue to the park, you may spot some species of animals rushing to their hideouts, check into your booked accommodation for leisure as you wait for dinner and an overnight at (luxury) Mweya safari lodge, Katara Lodge, Jacana safari lodge, Kyambura game lodge, (midrange)Ihamba lake side lodge, Simba safari lodge, (budget) Engazi lodge,
Day 4: Game drive and launch cruise
Wake up for an early morning breakfast and then after you will go to kasenyi area of the park to spot various species of animals that rushes out from their hideouts. At the park you may spot both small and big giants like lions, buffaloes, elephants, leopard, giant forest hog, Uganda kobs, warthogs, spotted hyena, various species of birds kike the black- rumpped buttonquail, verreaux’s, African skimmer among many others, after take a slow drive back to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch embark on a 2 hours launch cruise on the Kazinga channel that connects lakes Edward and George, the launch cruise gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close like schools of hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and elephants can be seen along the shorelines. The shores are also a home to various species of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. Day 5: Departure
Have a hearty morning breakfast and then after embark on a transfer to Kampala and later to the Entebbe international airport to meet your departure flight back home if scheduled on the same day
